- Learn about the benefits of the new version of invoicing and how to complete certain tasks that may look different from classic invoicing.
About invoicing in Xero
Xero has two versions of invoicing – classic and new. Classic invoicing is our legacy invoicing solution, and our new version of invoicing is a simpler, faster way to invoice.
Click Switch to new invoicing at the bottom of your invoice screen and try creating your next invoice using the new version. You can also test it out in the demo company.
Benefits of the new version of invoicing
The new version of invoicing has several features designed to speed up your workflows and create professional, customized invoices. You can:
- Personalize and add items to your invoice in fewer clicks, including contact information, delivery addresses, and packing slips.
- Customize your invoice edit screen by choosing to show or hide fields.
- Automatically save your invoice as a draft so you never lose your work.
- Choose an action such as Approve & email your invoice in just one click.
- Add discounts the way you want – either by percentage or whole number discount.
- Apply credit limits to customers to reduce the risk of accumulating large amounts of bad debt.
The future of invoicing
Our product team is committed to adding more customisation, automation and time-saving tools, while also building the features you know from classic invoicing into the new version. In the future, the following features are just some from classic invoicing that will be available in the new version of invoicing:
- See detailed History & Notes, including invoice number, contact, and amount.
In the meantime, here’s a few things you’ll need to do a little differently:
- Add a new account, tax rate or tracking category using the specific functionality in Xero, rather than from within an invoice.
- Add a description line by adding information to the Description field only. Lines with information in other fields are recognised as financial lines and won’t display as description only.
- Copy an invoice to a bill or purchase order from the invoice list page, rather than from within an invoice.
For now, you need to use classic invoicing to do the following tasks. Click Switch to classic invoicing at the bottom of your invoice screen to:
- Edit the exchange rate for a foreign currency applied to an invoice, from the invoice.
